Alumni Baseball Game

Donning the orange and black for the first time in many years, 26 former baseball players turned out for the first-ever alumni game at the Johnson-O’Brien Stadium. The game was very entertaining for the fans, especially with retired coach Dave Johnson (the winningest baseball coach in the State of Washington) calling the game; getting in more than a few jabs at his former team members.

The event was organized by Bryan Johnson, former Tiger player. The fun-filled game began with retired coach Johnson throwing out the ceremonial opening pitch.

The alumni team of players who graduated in even-number years posted a 9-6 win over the odd-year squad in a game that ended with “no injuries, but lots of sore bodies.”

The Tiger baseball teams of 1977, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, and 1999 were all Washington State Championship Teams. Since 1972 Ephrata has established an outstanding record: 25 League titles, 21 District titles, 15 Regional titles, and 16 State appearances.

A second alumni game is planned for the summer of 2015.
