Sgt. Stan Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carter, of 140 Schilling Drive, Moses Lake, formerly of Ephrata, has died of combat wounds in Vietnam. The family received official announcement Thursday morning. Sgt. Carter, an Army mortar man, had been in Vietnam five months. According to the reports he was fatally wounded when his position was overrun several days ago by enemy troops. He had been wounded earlier in combat and received the Bronze Star medal for his heroism. Stan Carter played football in Ephrata and was an active worker with youth in sports. Also known for his sketches, oil paintings, and water colors, he had contributed several pen and ink sketches of the combat zone to the local paper. He was a 1966 graduate of Ephrata high school. Ephrata GI Killed in war. Sgt. Stanley Alan Carter, 21, a 1966 Ephrata High School graduate, was killed in action in Vietnam. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carter, 140 Schooling Dr., were notified of Sgt. Carter's death last. night. Sgt. Carter was awarded the Bronze Star recently He returned to combat in Vietnam after being wounded by shrapnel two weeks ago, according to a family spokesman. Sgt. Carter attended Big Bend Community College in 1966-67. Survivors include his parents and one sister, Gale.
